What are the walls made of? If they are tiles, clean it this way. Choose a n evening where no one absolutely no one will use the bathroom. Put pure household bleach in a spray bottle (plastic really) . Cover your nose, spray the contents all over the entire bathroom.Be generous and spray lots. Leave on over night. Wash in the morning or redo ita second time.if lots of brown stuff have drained into the floor. That means there is too much gross stuff and the bleach has not reached the original tile surface yet.
If that doesnt work, it might be due to hard water deposits that have crusted over the years mixed with everything else. Ask a professional. I think they use a hydrochloric (muriatic) acid compound instead, the ones they use in sewage and canals etc.You might not be able to buy them from the usual grocery stores and are more dangerous to your pipes and metal fixtures. Let them do it for you.

If you can find a product called Tilex, it works very well. To prevent problems from recurring after it's clean, try keeping a small fan in the area on low all the time. I live in Washington state not far from Puget Sound, and moving air is a MUST here to keep mold from building up!

You may have to repaint. There's a paint called "Ridz" that prevents mold and mildew from occuring. It's especially for bathrooms and other typically humid areas.
