It think that's actually normal for moms of school kids, but you might want to try shooting for a little earlier bed time so you don't need so much of a nap later. Most studies say that it's better to sleep for the solid 8 hours but most people know that just isn't happening.

There's also another factor, what works for you. Some people need more sleep than others and some people NEED less. You're a mom, odds are you need all the energy you can get out of your day just to keep from going crazy when everything seems to be going at once. Somewhere between laundry, dishes, cooking, general house cleaning, and keeping your family organized your body is taking the toll. In most cases I've found it's not entirely how much sleep you get as much as the quality of sleep you get. A nice hot bath before bed can relax your blood flow and help you have a more relaxing, peaceful sleep. Also the type of matress you have being the right firmness to give you optimum comfort. There's lots of things that are involved, so you can even do your own study of how your body reacts by keeping track of what kind of sleep you got, how long, and how you feel through out the day like how you feel at 7AM, 9AM, 12PM, etc.

Hope this helped.

I doubt that it is bad for your health. All I know is that if I wake up after 6hrs of sleep, if I go back down more than an hour later & sleep again for 2hr, I feel worse than I do when I skip any naps altogether. The best thing for you would be to get the 8hrs you are trying for with 8hrs of uninterupted sleep. But if you can't you may find you feel more refreshed if you take a couple of shorter naps 10-20min through the day.
If you plan to change your sleeping habits, you will need to allow about two weeks of trying the new habit before you can start to feel any positive results.

It depends on you. You have a sleep bank, and you can keep putting sleep into the bank, hours at a time, etc. However, your sleep time for healing the body is between 3:00 AM-on, so it just depends. I can do that, and make it up the next day, but I am a night person, and I am used to it. Not everyone needs 8 hrs. Einstein only slept 4 hrs, so I have heard.

Yes it can be a health factor. Some people don't need as much sleep as others. If you get 6 hrs. of sleep a night and are still tired in the morning and have to go back to sleep... you need more sleep.
Ask yourself why you go to bed at 12:30. Is it possible to go to bed earlier? Set a daily routine so that you can go to sleep earlier. If you have trouble sleeping, see a Dr. they have plenty of non-addictive sleep aids. You will wake up ready and refreshed.
I don't think you can make up for lost sleep, but you can start by going to bed earlier ( if possible).
I usually go to bed at10 or 11p and get up at 7a. I feel refreshed and ready to start my day. (tonight is a little different stress and anxiety has me in shambles) I'll be in your shoes tomorrow morning!

I've always found that whatever works for you, works. You're lucky to get those two extra hours so, I say, do it up. Don't worry about what's "normal." If it aint broken, don't fix it.
