In my opinion (I'm a behavioral psychologist), laziness is not a medical problem, its a question of conditioning. If a person has been reqarded for hardwork in the past, it will be highly likely that they will be continue to work hard. However, if a person doesn't have to work hard, but somehow continues to get rewarded. (like the loafer in a group getting the "A" even though everyone else did the work), they are likely to continue doing little work i.e. be lazy. See work by Skinner and Bandura.

It is basically an attitudinal prolem. Every human being has his/her own complexities and often that is the reason why some people don't get success in their professional or personal lives. The general laziness could be a result of a physical limitation like general debility and weakness which makes them unable to take up challenging or demanding tasks. Or they may have an inhibiting psychological cause behind it. The specific answer to your question is YES. The general laziness or unwillingness is an attitudinal and behavioural problem which can be solved with professional help and/or counselling to help the person to realize and utilize his full potential and achieve success at work. I remember the quote "Successful people don't do different things, they do things DIFFERENTLY".

General laziness at work or unwillingness to work is not a medical problem. In my humble opinion, a lazy person is lazy by choice. In other words, there is nothing wrong with him. He is just plain lazy. That's all.

It is a minor medical problem. The best cure is a swift kick to the rear with a good steel toe work boot.

It certainly can become a medical condition if one's co-worker gets angry enough!
OK, seriously, clinical depression can cause someone to seem overly lazy.

only in the southern part of the u.s. is it considered that. they refer to someone who is lazy as being afflicted, e.g., such as "the poor thing, she can't help it -- she's just lazy."
