Ask your landlord to fix them unless you rented knowing the floors were like that. Or ask him to give you rent credit for investment to fix the floors.

In any case, consult with your landlord and GET HIS PERMISSION IN WRITING before you contract or do any kind of work.

Ask your landlord first before you do anything. Then if the wood stain is intact and scratches on the wood aren't deep, try putting a thinned out coat of polyurathane on the damaged wood. Put one coat down and let dry completely. Use feather light strokes so there won't be any hard or visible lines from the old surface to the new. And do this with adequate ventilation. If it appears lighter in color than the original surface put down another coat as before, making sure you let it dry completely between coats.Repeat until you get as close to a match as possible.

go to your hardwood store get some
1. wood putty
2. putty knife
3. (2) paint brushes
4. wood stain
5. poly urathain
start with the wood putty and place in the holes, remember to smooth as best as you can. wait until it dries. lightly sand til you can run your hand over it and not feel a lump or dint. get a stain closest to the color of wood and paint on the wood and wipe off with an old cloth, let dry. get a new paint brush and paint on poly urithain, let dry.
time to dry is about 8 hours at the least and 24 for the most time.

start with a good scrubbing with Orange Clean and follow up with another with Murphys Oil Soap. if those do not help, i would ask your landlord to take care of the issue as it is more than a basic cleanup job.
I have cleaned up hardwood floors that were subjected to years of abuse with those products, but if they dont work, a light sanding by a professional should do the trick.

first try Murphy's Oil Soap and clean by hand with a cloth let it dry completely you may have to repeat cleaning a few times. Then try the clear liquid Old English on it see if that will bring the shine out. If that doesn't work then you may need to re-varnish.
