Reality check. That was the effect. We live in a wicked world and must be prepared for everything. There was surprise, fear, action (fight of flight), and the emotional scar. It taught me that although I am not Superman I can still have victory either by successfuly fighting back or by avoiding being a victim and either running or asking for help. A wise man once said: "It is poor set of feet that let a body get beat."
Mr. M on "attacked on the streets."

Yes. When I was a boy with a paper route I was attacked twice by the same person.

The second time I actually retaliated and did some damage.

It has had a big effect on me. It was over 30 years ago but I still remember it vividly.

Yes. About 8 years ago a woman stole my wallet and I chased after her. I tackled her in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in the city - we were literally fighting in the middle of the street. Cars swerved around us. She scratched me on my arm - I think I still have a slight scar on that arm. She unfortunately managed to escape since I thought my wallet was in a bag she was carrying that she threw aside, and I tried to look through that bag while holding her. She ran down the street and I think she managed to get a ride from someone in a car.

Unfortunately, I had $600 in that wallet - I was planning to open a Wells Fargo bank account soon and place that money in it! I worked overtime later and recovered my loss. Needless to say, that was a long time ago and my life has changed considerably since then. It was frankly a bad idea to be carrying that much cash in my wallet.

It clearly showed me there are desperate, ugly people in the world and the world can be a dangerous place.

No, but I have been to the rescue of a woman who was being attacked and we fought the man off together. We kept in touch for a while afterwards and we laughed about it.
Laughter is the best medicine after all.

Yes. A lot of times. I must live in a rough nieghbourhood seeing as people keep saying no. The worst was being jumped by 5 drunk guys for no reason. I ended up in hospital from being kicked in the head quite a few times....as long as they had fun though.

Yes, I was in college and very drunk. The effect, don't get so drunk you are considered incapacitate and a good victim. Stay sober enough so you can defend yourself decently, and the potential attackers will vitimize someone else (maybe).

Yes. I was robbed by a bunch of Black Guys at the Notting Hill Carnival. But it wasn't heavy and they smiled all the time! All the same, I'd still rip their fkn hearts out if I could.

Yes, verbally attack, but not physically attacked.I thought to myself, " What a lewd bunch of girls!" I told them off. I believe they felt worse than I did from my tongue lashing.
