If your diet is balanced then you don't need them. Buying vitamins/suppliments is a waste of money provided you're getting everything in your normal diet.
As you age, it's a good idea to keep up your calcium, because your hormones regulate your bones and once menopause hits you need even more calcium to make sure you don't get osteoporosis. Also get out in the sun (about 30 minutes a day) because it's the best source of vitamin D. Or you can buy it in conjunction with calcium. Most products don't have enough calcium in them because they expect you to have some in your diet (youghurt, milk, cheese, etc). So check what recommended amounts are (Aussie government has new recommended dietary guidelines on the web) and compare to what you eat normally.

I like Nature Made vitamins - after reading many labels. I take one MultiVitamin for Her. I take 2 calcium tablets a day (Citracal) which is very absorbable. I take two Vitamin C's a day - 500 mg. each. I'm very healthy and I eat a balanced diet. I am 48. My blood tests and thyroid panels all come back 100% on target. I also enjoy making my own smoothies and only eat organic meats, fruits, veggies and dairy - esp. Vanilla yogurt (Stoneyfield). Also organic 1% milk. :)

I will be the big 5 OH in May and my family doc just put me on Centrum Performance. This doc has pulled me thru 2-3 pretty scary experiences, so if that is what he suggests, I'd say that's the best!

I would recommend Calcium for bones. Vitamin E for restoring and repairing cells. As one gets older, this vitamin is crucial. Also, coenzyme Q10 which brings more oxygen to the cells- this is pricey but worth it as one becomes older. Hope this helps.
