>Sounds like an oxymoron to me. Abstinence is neither right or wrong, it's a terrible disease usually caused by poverty or marriage.<

I think that it is very interesting that almost everyone here filters sex through humanism, which is not logical. I've noticed a bit of a trend: as long as I only have sex with those I really care about, then it's OK. Oh yeah, and we don't want to get a "bad reputation." Abstinence isn't a practice. It is a lifestyle. When I first started playing the guitar I practiced all the time. I was terrible at playing but I still practiced. Why did I practice? To eventually become a great guitar player! Abstinance cannot be practiced because that entails a failure to abstain which means that you are then not abstinant. Does that make sense???? Only one person, to my knowledge, wrote about virginity but he didn't even make the cut. Virginity is precious. It is so precious that it should only be given to the person who has given an oath to devote their life to you. I treasure my virginity, even through the ridicule. That is the best wedding present that I can think to give my girlfriend. It is refreshing to know that my spouse is the one and only and vice versa. And don't worry about lines to be drawn, chances are that if you think you're crossing a line... you are.

I do practice abstinence. There is no right or wrong. As human beings in our own selves/minds/bodies, we have the personal choice to dispose of them as we please. It may be wrong to someone else, but what would they say if we were to tell them to start practicing abstinence? No one likes a command, especially on how to utilize their own body!

Practicing abstinence eliminates so many possible problems. It is just easier. It doesn't *f* up any friendships, either. But this is me, and if it is different for anyone else, then that is okay. We are living by rules implemented by a socially changing society, but we have some personal freedoms; the same ones that we have had for centuries, or more.

It's better, but depends on your definition of 'abstinence', if we're talkin bout just no penis in the hole type of thing, that won't work because of oral sex, foreplay, dry humpin, all that....temptation. If you're talkin about being a priest....okay MONK....we won't go into the priest thing, then yea it could work, if you can hold yourself for that long...or if you just use your hand until the right one comes...Cause since EVERYBODY is freakin promiscuous nowadays, too much trouble to go and worry if she got aids, go get tested, or all those nasty STDs that you REALLY don't wanna have. Pregnancy isn't even an issue when in comparison to that. So i'd wait....I did, i held out until i was 23 yrs old, hard as hell too...cause I still messed around, and was tempted, but I tried my best to wait cause, it was a virginity thing, and i wanted that picture perfect gift giving scenario.....unfortunately i gave it to the wrong person, but i guess fate made up for it when i met my fiance who was a virgin and i got to be her first....so....yea better to not do it until you got someone clean and ....'virtuous' .

right. i practice abstinance because i dont want to run the risk of getting an std or getting pregnant when i dont want to, just because a condom broke or i forgot to take my birth control. i also want to wait for just the right person before i choose to have sex so that i don't regret it later.

I am trying to and have succeeded so far but its really hard. I am also starting to re-think everything and it doesn't seem legitimate. I mean, If it doesn't crush my self- esteem, if all precautions are taken, and its with someone I care about I don't think it should be a big deal as long as I don't get the reputation of a whore and be the only reason guys would like me..
