I'm in my first semester of college, and I know for me the real challenge has been time management. I overloaded my schedule, and I am having the hardest time keeping track of everything. It's also hard to know how each professor works. Some give way easy homework, but have difficult tests. You just have to talk to people, and get professors that you think you can handle. It's difficult to find time to relax sometimes! Just have fun when you can.

Getting your priorities straight, learning to be disciplined about studying instead of taking advantage of the new-found away from home freedom and staying up to all hours! I was seriously sleep deprived most of my first semester. I slept through many an eight o'clock chemistry lecture (in the lecture hall!) You will learn to make good choices or make bad ones and have a really tough time making it through the year. Also deciding what to major in or if the major you thought you wanted is really what you want to do for the rest of your life!

Social - making new friends
Personal - challenge of forming a new identity, self-discipline in study and personal relationships, doing your own washing and perhaps cooking
Spiritual - will I indulge in temptation or will I behave?
Geographical - moving to a new place

I think that the biggest challenge for most students is in the area of relationships, relationships with each other, relationship with yourself and for some relationship with God.

It depends on the student and the school. Most likely:
getting used to being away from home
living with roommates
studying more
not having anyone tell you to do things (which means you have to do homework without being told)
new information
different eating habits

Adjusting to life away from home, learning how to live on your own spending, learning to handle tougher courses and a heavier workload, leaving your high school friends and having to make new ones at college, living with a roommate in a dorm, etc.
