Will the Democrats have to actually take a majority in both houses, or can they be content to get enough seats that the Republicans who are against the war will be enough?

Notme: All Congress would have to do is stop passing the emergency spending measures that support the war. Bush cannot veto a measure that doesn't get passed. Of course, anyone who did that would get ripped for 'unpatriotically voting against our men and women in uniform.' Unfortunately, there is a large segment of ignorant Americans who can't connect the dots to discover that our armed forces would be in harm's way if Bush hadn't put them there.

Good question.
We can hope the Democrats will be brave enough to let the Iraqis run their own nation.

Iraq is lost. Even if the Republicans retain control of Congress the troops will begin redeploying by next spring at the latest. They need to out for the 2008 elections, so they will be.
This was never about terrorism or the Iraqi people. Haven't you figured that out by now?

In order for things to change somewhat, the Democrats will have to take control of ALL of Congress, although I still believe there will be gridlock if the Dems take control of either the House or Senate.

Thats a very good point. Thanks for bringing it up. However the majority has to be large enough to override a veto. It still isn't enough to correct this madness quickly. Either way we need to keep the pressure on, and force bush to pull us out. Congress controls the money.

He will not be forced to pull out of Iraq most of all because there is not enough time in his term for that to happen. Change of this sort takes a lot of time and government moves ssslllllloooowwwllllllyyyy on everything anyway and when a President is set on something it takes a lot to change his policy. It's too bad but that is the way that it is.
