To me.. the Scariest movie of all time is Evil Dead.. part 1..
but...
If you want to be really freaked out.... try..
Dead Alive... so gory...it's almost funny
3 Xtremes.. not for the weak of stomach.. especially "Dumplings"
there are tons more.... most are not mainstream...
Slaughtered Vomit Dolls... name says it all...lol
August Underground.. its really bad.. just prepare yourself
Ichi the Killer... very very freaky .. bloody.... over the top
Lots of movies only have "scary" scenes.. like Audition and The Eye.. Cannibal Holocaust, Salo... I wouldn't get the movie.. but if your curious..go to youtube and watch the scenes instead..

Depends on how much you wanna freak yourself and your friends out! As an avid film lover... I highly recommend the following: ( oh and the word horror, is very broad- you're going to want to check out classic cult films instead! )
Freaks- downright classic, controversial and in black and white; it is directed by Tod Browing- there's no blood and guts like the modern flicks, but it does the job.
Cannibal holocaust- a very disturbing, bloody, controversial film from the late 70's. Do a search for it, and you'll see what I mean. If you don't have a weak stomach, go for this one.
Night of the living dead- not the remakes, the original! black and white.
Hannibal or Silence of the lambs
Halloween- still creeps me out and I'm 35!
Candyman- a HUGE personal fave of mine!!! Gore, blood and 2 plots! It's awesome!
Invasion of the body snatchers- no gore, no grotesque monsters- but still frightening!
And do yourself a favor, get yourself a copy of any HorrorHound!!!!!!!!
Happy haunting with the flicks- have fun!!!!

Tales from the Darkside is pretty scary. Although IMO opinion the TV series is better than the movie. Unfortunately the TV series is only on VHS so hope you still have a VCR handy.
Also agree with previous posters that Exorcist and the Shining is scary as well.

Without a doubt it has to be Saw. Don't watch the second one becaue it's stupid but the first one will really mess with you. It's more of a psychological horror flick instead of just blood N gore. Follow that up with Young Frankenstein just so everyone will be able to sleep that night:)
