This one has me stumped too.
Identify the property of real numbers illustrated by the statement.
2 + (3 + 8) = (2 + 3) + 8
Someone explained it to me, but I cant understand why we just reverse them all around?

Hi Advisor,
When you have brackets or parentheses, you take whatever's in front of the bracket or parentheses and move it to the inside ... for example, -(32+8) is the same as (-32-8). Do you get that part?
Here's step by step how you'd do the problem you have:
122 - [45 - (32 + 8) - 23] =
122 - [45 - 32 - 8 - 23] =
122 - 45 + 32 + 8 + 23 = {it's +32+8+23 because two negatives make a positive; i.e., -(-32) = +32}
140
Did that help? I hope so!

The order of operation should be performed this way :
First the operations in common braces, then those in flower braces and finally those in square brace. So here is the answer:
122 - [ 45 - (32+8) - 23]
= 122 - [ 45 - 40 - 23]
= 122 - [ - 18]
= 140.
and for 2 + ( 3+8) = (2+3 )+8
Its is associative property that is addition of natural numbers is associative. That is whether you add 3 to 8 and then the sum to 2 the answer is same as that obtained by adding 2 to 3 first then to 8.

While Solving the Algebra operaton We have to follow BODMAS order
Brackets,Powers or Roots,Division,Multiplication,Addition,Subraction
Step 1:
32+8 = 43
Step 2:
[45 -(43+23)]
step 3:
[45 -66]
step 4 :
122 -(-21)
step 5:
122+21
ans = 143

Hi,
this is a simple equation which can be solved by BODMAS rule,,hope u know that....
Answer = 122-[45-40-23]
= 122-[-18]
=140
so 140, is the answer...
And secondly u are talking about Additive Property of numbers..
this reversing is done,coz it is not true in all cases that:
first adding a+b and then adding c to their result OR first adding b+c and then adding a to their result

122-[45-(32+8)-23]
122-[45-40-23]
122-(5-23)
122-(-18).....negative times negative is equal to positive..so...
122+18=140...do u get it??
answer....140
for the second equation
2=(3+8)=(2+3)+8
2+11=5+8
13=13
