Hyland's Poison Ivy pills work pretty good. So does Vitamin C cream and VItamin E oil applied 2-3 times a day (Alternate applications: use one and then use the other on the next application). Take 500 mg of vitamin C every 2-3 hours until better or loose stools occur.

poison ivy rashes are caused by urushiol oil that is found in the leaves and stem of the plant.
the best treatment for this type of rash is to dry out the blisters. the blisters develop within 12-48 hours after contact with the plant.
apply a cold washcloth to the blisters and then allow a fan to blow over them-this will help relieve the itching and will also help to dry the blisters out.
you can also run ice cubes over the blisters to also relieve the itch.
after allowing the fan to dry the blisters-apply calamine lotion to them-the lotion will form a dry, crusted layer over the blisters-helping to relieve the itch and to also help dry them up.
you can also take oral benadryl tablets. take 1-2 of the 25mg tablets every 6-8 hours but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours. this medication will make you drowsy.
avoid using hydrocortisone or benadryl cream on the blisters-this will actually make them worse and don't do much to help them heal.
you can also take an oatmeal bath but make sure the water is cool to help relieve the itch.
don't scratch-there could be bacteria underneath your fingernails and if you break open the blisters while scratching-you could infect them with the bacteria.
report to the emergency room if:
-the blisters are getting worse (more red, increased swelling) even with using above treatments
-they rash area becomes hot to the touch
-you begin to run a fever of 101.0 or higher
-the blisters begin to ooze a large amount of pus (might be yellow or green in color)
these signs indicate infection and you will need antibiotics to clear it up

Birch bark and slippery elm poultice. If you don't have access to a store right now; throw some flour in the oven and slightly brown it. I use both and I'm a poison ivy queen. Just love to hike and I always manage to find a patch. Whatever you do DO NOT use calamine lotion. People used to use it but it just makes it worse and can make you scar.

Do not take a bath. The oils will seep into the bath water and irritate your whole body. But, they do make oat-meal based bath tonics that let the oil seep out and the oat meal soaks it up. If it is just a little bit - put calamine lotion on it. If the blisters get big enough and irritate you, pop them - just make sure you have iodine handy and cotton swabs. Collect all the oil on swab - toss it - swab with iodine - let sit for a while - rinse. Repeat if needed.

Contact your physician , a steroid shot or course of prednisone could be helpful, or you could go to the pharmacy and pick up one of the many products on the market for poison ivy.
