I would put some in a college fund for my children, buy them land, homes and cars ( complete with everything they need), make sure the rest of my family and close friends are taken care of in the same manner, buy life and burial insurance for all, and any friend or family member that had a special need I would make sure that everything was taken care of. I would also find a way to make sure that if anything should happen to any of them that they would be taken care of. Finally I would buy myself some land, home, car, insurance and all of the above for myself. but others come first. If i knew someone who needed something more than I did i would definately help them. The rest would go to a charity anyway even if i didn't have a time limit.

You can't have a million dollars and spend it.
you could buy travelers checks or money orders.
You could buy stocks or bonds, but when you are done the money is less than it was when you started.
I would kind of like to own a MacDonalds and a Gas Station. that would be worth a lot of money.

I'd just donate it anyway right from the start. I'd give a hundred thousand dollars each to ten charities that help children.

I would spend the majority of it on mutual funds, certificates of deposit, give a lot of it away to worthy causes and buy some big ticket items that I never really NEEDED but have always wanted.

buy property i've got my eye on--$400,000
--not including amt. needed to get the paperwork thru by 5p
while the paperwork was going through, for the land...
i'd contract w/local tech school to design and build a studio compound (on that property) where teens could go to learn
...music...ag....art... construction skills
would also (quickly) make contacts to arrange scholarship program for next 10 years that would select new batch of students for each summer's session of on-site learning of the music/ag/art/construction
the mil. would get eaten up pretty quickly
but, it'd be great

I'd but an expensive painting. Then, the next day I would sell it for a small profit and put it in the bank. Then I would live off the interest.
