Alltel offers 3 types of preaid plans (U prepaid): paid by minutes, paid by day, and pay by month. (Alltel also offers a preaid cell phone set as low as $9.98. )

Pay-per-day, I think this is the best value deal. It will charge you 75 cents per day and you get to choose two add-on options for free. The add-on options are "free nights & weekends", "free mobile to mobile" and "unlimited text messaging". It charge you 10 cents per minute during the day time.

As the name says, the paid-by-minute plan charges you 15 cents perminute when you make a call or per-incomming or per-outgoing text message.

The website for the plan details and selection of cell phones available for the prepaid plan can be found at:

Verizon Inpulse prepaid.
You get unlimited night calling to anyone in the country (from 9pm to 6am).
Unlimited mobile to mobile to anyone in the Verizon Network.
It's 10 cents a minute to call anyone that isn't in the Verizon Network or if it isn't past 9pm.
A 99 cents all day access fee is taken out of your account once a day (even if you don't use your phone)

The least you pay once a month is around $30 to $45 and you can buy the Verizon cards at any drugstore.

I personally think it's a pretty good deal seeing as though Verizon gives you unlimited night calling and unlimited mobile to mobile. I haven't see another prepaid service like that yet and I've done a lot of research. Cingular has something similar but they don't give you unlimited night calling and you have to pay using a credit or debit card. With Verizon you just buy a prepaid card at the drugstore, put the pin number into your phone and go.

I pretty much checked out all of them last April. I found that Net-10 was the best. I got a phone and 300 minutes that lasted 2 months for 50 dollars. I bought a one year 1500 minute card for 150 dollars and put it in a few days before the 2 month card ran out and it let me keep my 280 minutes I had left over. So for a years supply and a new phone once every year it cost me 200 dollars. So far I have taken the phone with me everywhere and it never goes into roam and works most everywhere. My old 450 dollar phone and Cinglar that was costing me over 600 bucks a year did not pickup at my home and down by the lake but the Net 10 will.

Check out net 10 before you settle. Get it at walmart.

if your in australia the best/cheapest your going to get is either LG Optimus on the Optus turbocap plus (free texting to ANYONE, free facebook, $300 credit) for only $30 if your happy to bump it up to $50 then it will also add unlimited calls to anyone if you dont want to go $50 but your happy with $40 then i would suggest Boost, they have a $40 recharge offer which is unlimited calls and text, depends on what plan you go on you get a certain amount of internet usage and free facebook, and you can get that with the samsung galaxy mini or if you buy online still consider one of the plans i have suggested but get the HTC Desire Z it is a touchscreen android phone which also has a qwerty keyboard

I really like the Cingular "Pick your plan". This plan is 49.99 a month, but you get unlimited Nights and weekends and unlimited Cingular talking. It only gives like 300 anytime minutes a month.

You don't need a contract for this plan even though you are charged monthly.

Alltel's pay as you go plan has cheaper minutes, but their roaming minutes are really expensive. Somehow, I'm always roaming.
