It seems that people go, pay thousands of dollars, are given medications with doubtful results, and are still never given a clean bill of health.

I did once. Cost me a couple thousand, and it did help.

They get it free in Canada though lol. Free healthcare but you live basically in the arctic. I think I would rather pay for healthcare and live here in South Carolina lol

Did you hear the story about the patient who thought he was Jesus? After everyone gave up on him, one psychologist decided to accept the delusion and mentioned that since Jesus was a carpenter, that maybe the patient could fix some of the furniture in the hospital. After 6 months of carpentry the patient was cured.

Upon hearing that story, another psychologist applied the technique to a patient who thought he was the 'terminator'. The psychologist asked this patient if he was really the 'terminator', or just the actor playing the terminator. Much to everyone's surprise, the patient said that he was the actor playing the part. So the psychologist asked the patient to take on a new role. He was to play a person in a mental institution trying to get well. It worked!

Once being diagnosed with a mental health issue you can never remove the stigma there are no cures for mental health disorders there are solutions but once you are diagnosed you will never be given a clean bill of health it is not like going to the hospital for the flu. This is as I see it a flaw in the system but as of now nothing can be done about this.

It's not the job of psychologist to cure the persons problem, its to help the person process their emotions and what they are dealing with. Perhaps teach them ways to cope. The client is the one that has to cure themselves. The psychologist is there to help the person gain insight and perspective, and break down mental barriers to emotional healing. Sometimes people go back when they get stuck on a problem. It's a growing experience.

Well the psychologist is not a miracle worker Hun. They are only there to help cure yourself. They are not a medical doctor who can stitch up your problems and pain. They give suggestions and assist you in making positive choices and adjustments in life. Their job is not to "fix" a person but to "assist" a person in fixing their own problems, and also act as an unbiased outlet. The medicine is believed to be necessary for some in order to bring them to a state of reasoning, and for chemical imbalances, etc. (Although most cases I don't believe that medicine should be used, esp. in the foster care system. Most of those kids don't need to be drugged! It makes them like zombies and makes some of them feel that they can't be normal without the meds.)
Anyway, there are many cases where people have been successful with their psychologist and are happier with themselves and the choices that they have made in life.

I've been going to psychiatrists, psychologists and analysts all my life and have never received a clean bill of health. There's always a new problem coming up. Or they just love the money.

Sure, people are helped by psychologists...but they don't know it at the time as it's a slow process that continues long after therapy ends.

i went to a psychologist b/c i had problems with panic attacks and anxiety, and although i wouldn't say i'm cured now, i know how to handle panic attacks better when they come. i know ways to help my anxiety when it gets to be more than i can handle. my psychologist helped me alter my thinking, and she did the same for my sister and i have seen similar results to mine in my sister. psychologists don't prescribe mediation - psychiatrists do - so mine simply talked with me.

They are used to hypothesize about their patients and "discover!" something in them that the poor patient has not even thought about! They coin almost one or more disease for every patient who refers to them. Then, usually unrealistic and useless treatments begin, mostly worsening the situation. Be honest to yourself. Speak with yourself in private. Try to cope with problems and seek help from God if you believe in Him, then you surely will be cured.
