Then what if he wants to put me on birth control to regulate my periods... I really don't want to be on birth control everyone that I know on birth control has gained a lot of weight.

There has been times that I have gone 3 to 4 months without a menstrual cycle then have one for a month or longer....yuck and YES I know that I need to go to the Doctor ASAP but does anyone know what I can expect... and has anything like this ever happened to anyone else are am I just a freak...

Ok, I am 52, but at 46 years old I had a DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleed). This sounds like what you are having. Mine was due to feminine hormone imbalance (low progesterone).

I went to an endocrinologist, because I had been previously diagnosed with low blood sugar (www.hufa.org has some basic info). I asked her for a saliva hormone test (about $150, cash), a fasting blood insulin test (about $80, cash) and a 24 hour urine cortisol test (irrelevant to your problem in my opinion - but I needed to know in my case) (can't remember how much that cost, but it was less than $150). She made me get a fasting blood glucose test too (about $10 cash). The fasting blood insulin test confirmed I had high insulin (over 10 is high) and that could have been the cause of the DUB and the low progesterone - and my PCOS in past years, as well as the hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

These tests are not scary and some do not involve needles. Have your doctor prescribe the fasting blood insulin, because it will rule out a lot - if it is normal.

You are not a freak. If you search yahoo answers, you will find that more and more women of younger and younger ages are having weird menstrual flows. If it is due to high insulin - it makes sense to me, because high insulin is also a precursor to diabetes. And low blood sugar is one cause of obesity.

You will probably need to get help for your cycle... birth control most likely... but this will regulate you to a more consistent periods. You'll gain weight some, but don't you gain weight with bloating during the menstral cycle?

my cousin went through this. the doctor said it has something to do with genetics for her. this could be something different though so you should still go see a doctor. the human body is so weird. maybe you don't make enough estrogen and when you do you make to much. that is what causes your uterine wall to build. once your estrogen goes down that is when it sheds and you get your period. you might just need to take an estrogen pill or maybe even birth control can help regulate. don't worry it will all be fine.

Nope you aren't alone. You should get it checked out...blah blah blah...i know.....but you could have a cist that keeps rupturing or what have not. Birth control pills...yes its true a side affect is weight gain, but nothing extreme......atleast not that i have seen. there are different types of strengths tooo....it wouldn't hurt to get on them.....will regulate your period, you'll know when your getting it...for how long...etc. My mother had this same problem. Nothing was wrong with her.....she had no problem having four kids....lol....your just one of those people....but do go get it checked out just for piece of mind. Take care and don't worry so much...you'll give yourself a heart a snack.

Don't worry about the weight gain. That's just a myth. You'll be fine...if your hormones are out of wack, the birth control will normalize them. That means you won't gain alot of weight because your body is used to having the kind of hormones that you have, whereas with people who already have normalized hormones, they're altered, which is what causes the weight gain.

it happened to me before. i took a birth control pill (brand name:diane45). i took it for about 6 months & my period was normalize. don't worry about the gaining weight issue bec. you can always do some exercise to keep you look fit. your menstrual cycle is obviously not normal so you better go to a doctor. if you're feeling dizzy now it could be you're anemic too. so dont think twice my dear. visit your doctor now.

Maybe not having your period for 3-4 months, may mean that you are either pregnant, or underweight, underweight girls and women don't get periods and can get pregnant anyways. So always use contraception. So maybe this incident of having a period for 7 weeks, was that perhaps you were pregnant, not having your period 3-4 months, and once a woman or female gets pregnant, and loses the baby either by miscarriage or abortion or carries baby to full term, the woman usually bleeds for about 6 weeks after giving birth, all the blood from the baby's nourishment, some can even be blood clots.

One time I went on a trip to France kind of against my will, a summer immersion course with the board of education, I was supposed to get period before I left, I didn't get it, and I never got it either for the whole 6 weeks that I was in France. I didn't get it until after a few days after I came back to Canada. I knew I wasn't pregnant because I just saw gynecologist before I left, and I didn't have sex with anyone. So that shows that stress too has an effect on period, either that it doesn't come, or that it last longer. But in your case, please go to the doctor, you are an adult now, and maybe you had a miscarriage (meaning the baby died within your uterus, and at stage 3-4 months, the foetus is tiny, so you wouldn't even notice that you are pregnant or that you had a miscarriage unless you had a lot of blood come out and some object fall out of your vagina from your uterus. But like I said at 3-4 months being pregant the foetus is very small so maybe you didn't feel it coming out, you just had the residual blood that comes after a baby. So please go to your doctor tell him or her everything to the last detail, and get checked out thoroughly. No one can force you to go on the birth control pill. I tried it once myself and I did gain weight, about 20 to 30 lbs in 6 months, even lost my desire to have sex. So I stopped taking the pill and started using an IUD, intra-uterine device, has to be inserted in your uterus by a doctor during your period, that is when cervix is a little open, the IUDs are good for about 3-4 years against pregnancy. However you still should protect yourself against Sexually Transmitted Diseases, including AIDS/HIV and genital warts. The best thing is, if you have one partner and you are both checked for STDS and HIV/AIDS by your doctors and by blood work. Then when you get results you can see that you are both ok and it would be best if you two just had sex with one another. See if you get other people involved then, they aren't medically checked, and then you are sleeping with people who may have had 50 or more partners each and out of those 50 people, maybe each of them had 25-50 partners, do you see what I mean. It is best to have one boyfriend, and both of you to be tested that you are medically healthy. The normal doctor may send you to a specialist in this field, a gynecologist, gynecologist take care of women's reproductive organs, and also deliver babies, organize abortions and just take care of you when don't have period for 4 months, and then you get one that lasts 7 weeks. If you wrote stuff on your calendar regarding when you got the periods and when you didn't, it might be helpful to the gynecologist or the doctor to see the pattern. Here in Canada we have to go to normal doctor and then be referred to the specialist. I don't know what country you are in. But in some countries there are sexual clinics, and clinics for women's problems, like no period or long period etc. So if one of these clinics is more accessible to you go there. Good luck. Take one day at a time, don't panic. Calm down. You will find out soon enough what it is. Maybe it was stress, or you were underweight, or you had a miscarriage or it could be something else. But remember, the sooner you go to a doctor or a women's clinic, or family planning clinic or whatever, the better it is for you and your health. And then you will know what it is, and you may even be relieved. It is best to go for regular check ups to your doctor and in times like the ones you mentioned now. Take care.

You should have your insulin levels checked. You might have PCOS and insulin resistance. Do you have any of these...
more hair on your face, especially sideburns?
skin tags, especially around the neck and underarms?
Darker skin at the neck, especially in the back, underarms, groin area and/or other skin folds?
Acne and/or oily skin?
Thin hair?
These, along with the irregular periods, are a sign of PCOS...of course it could be many things, like fibroid tumors. these things left untreated can cause infertility. You should get to the doc asap.

sometimes periods are just weird. like 3 friends and my cuz only have it once every couple months. apprently yours varies alot, so i dont think it'd be too bad. hopefully nothing drastic to expect. can i suggest something? homeopathy.
its like natural sugar medicine that totally can fix that. you take a little sugar pill under your tongue and it lasts 1-2 years. (and you wont gain weight)
its really healthy and has been around for like thousands of years.
just look into it...
