I would hope that they came from our upbringing, but I've also seen some really bad people come from really good families.I think the friends we chose when we are young also has alot to do with it.Although religion does play a role in some cases,I do know people who have never had any religious upbringing and are the most moral and ethical people you would want to meet.

They do not come from religion, religion just codifies them. All societies have moral codes regardless of which eligion they practice You might want to read "The Origins of Virtue" by Matt Ridley and or "The Science of Good and Evil" by Michael Shermer.

Most of the basic set of Western morals come from Judeo-Christianity. Even though a person does not believe in God that does not stop that same person from following a set of morals that had their origin in religious teachings.

From a scientific attitude, the respond to your question could desire to be "sure". because of the fact, from considered one of those attitude, if morality & ethics do not originate in human nature, the place else ought to they probable come from? that's to not say that particular cultural regulations are encoded in our DNA. because of the fact in the event that they have been, there could be little or no variability in morality & ethics in the time of cultures. The question is extremely complicated & is composed of quite a few distinctive stages of explanation. yet actual the placement is that we are genetically desperate to opt for to be "stable", to do the "top" ingredient. although, precisely what the "stable" & "top" are isn't something that's biologically coded. quite, as issues that could desire to be learnt, the content fabric of those innovations varieties area of our cultural inheritance. the placement in regard to ethics & morality is subsequently fullyyt analogous to that which prevails with admire to language. All human toddlers that improve commonly are genetically predisposed to earnings a language. they have, interior the words of Steven Pinker, a "language instinct". So language acquisition is a factor of our organic and organic inheritance. Or in different words, language originates in human nature. yet there are various languages & the only which you certainly learn is fullyyt a count of cultural inheritance.

I would think that it originated from Jesus....."Do what is right....then even if your brother acuses you of being wrong you'll feel good, knowing in your heart that you've done the right thing....It is better to be punished for doing good than for doing bad....." I know this probably doesn't make too much sense, but it's pretty much what happened to Jesus....
Also....a good part of our ethics comes from the Declaration of Independence.....And that was written by a group of believers...
"In God we Trust"....so help me God......God Bless America....
and so on...
I don't know, to some I might be full of it, but it makes sense to me.....
Good luck ! ! ! !

Religion is where they originated, but that does not mean that ANYONE can not adopt them. Even thieves have a code of conduct. The Mafia does as well.
