Often you can use a restore point when your pc is in "Safe Mode". You can tap the F8 key while booting up, and that will bring you to a menu to boot into Safe Mode. Do that, and then run a complete anti-virus scan using your anti-virus program. If that shows no virus, then try System Restore again. Good luck.

Maybe restore was turned of and you don't have a restore point.

maybe the restore date youre selecting is not available even though it's highlighted. try another date

If you're running from a virus, then RESTORE won't help ya...
