My theatre company has a successful children's program that now includes many young, teenage girls. Our regular company is looking for a play that would allow us to include some of these girls in our upcoming seaon. Someone recommended "The Children's Hour". Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm more than happy to author something. I wouldn't have to deal with royalties. However, the public is more interested in seeing something that is already established. Does anything come to mind?

"The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie." EXCELLENT, meaty script. You'll need four older teen girls - not appropriate for young'uns. If the kiddos aren't old enough for it yet, plan it for a few seasons out. To check out the story - novella of the same name by Muriel Spark, movie of same name starring Maggie Smith.

For more family friendly stuff, our local kids' theater does "Little Women" every few years. Always a hit. Oh, and there's a cute little semi-musical play called "Pegora the Witch" that Kids-n-Co does when girls way outnumber the boys. You need seven girls from about age 8-18 (They're named after the days of the week, and they're all princesses! I was Friday.)

Um..."Annie", if you're musically inclined and have the patience of a saint (in my experience Annie and Pepper, who invariably was the second choice for Annie and knows it, get into a cat fight around tech night.)

Maybe a "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" or "Alice in Wonderland" script. There are some good ones.

I like the first answers first sentence.

Why not author a play script, regarding LIFE.

The mother daughter bond and process in bonding, the chats, advice, rebuffs,,,even to a sometimes temporary Love/Hate relationship status.

It might take place in a single scene, the teens bedroom for example, after she found a picture album in a closet, showing the history of the family. You could include dysfunctional situations as well as diatribes by both in question and answer form. Relate both good and not so good, and the current scene as an opportunity to repair, enlighten, heal???

Just a thought,,,hoping you'll find an Original intuition.

Beyond Shakespeare and the Children's Hour, I'm at a loss. Why not contact Samuel French or Dramatist's Play Service? Their catalogs often have a section for plays that include children or adolescents, they might have an even more sophisticated system in their offices.

What about a play involving parents and their teen daughters, or maybe a mother/daughter thing? Another idea is something including adults but a fantasy play with fairies? Specifically I'm thinking about 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' but that might not be so great for children, hehe. I don't know any specific plays besides that though, sorry.
