I am 17 years old and at high school. I weigh 175 pounds(kinda fat) and I am 5 feet 7. My pace is 9min and 30 seconds a mile. Is that too slow??

There is no speed too slow or too fast, it all depends on what your target is, based on your own physical conditions.

If your goal is to keep physically active and maintain a good workout habit, that pace is a good start. You also need to consider the distance as well. If you say run 3 times a week, and each time for 3 miles for about 30 minutes, that's a great routine. Once you get it up for about 2 / 3 months, you'll notice your speed will pick up.

If your goal is to run a marathon, then you need to know that running a marathon requires rigorous training and mileage build up so your body can take the challenge. Typically for a first timer you should consider at least 4 months training and build up.

And finally if your goal is to race the 5k distance, then you probably need to build up speed.

I've been running for the past few years to maintain a workout routine. Most of my friends would run about 8 to 9 minute miles for 3-5 miles each time, just to give you a sense.

Hope this helps.

It's pretty bad - sorry. I would have looked for faster than that doing cross country even.

But then - doing it does help fitness, so if you stick at it and set your own previous times as the goal, you should improve.

4.8K (3 miles) in 30 minutes (3 times a day) is my exercise program on the treadmill right now, with varying amounts of incline - but I'm 44years old 5-11 & 240 pounds. Fortunately, I am a very experienced hiker (despite my weight), so I generally can walk the legs off people your weight - but maybe not your age :-)

I am 14. I run cross country. i'm 5 feet 9, 125 lbs. I run a 5 k in about 22-24 mins. my mile is 5-7 mins. compare your weight and size to me. I'd say your time is okay. maybe a little below average

5K is not a marathon. And sorry, 29 minutes is pretty darn slow for competition. High school runners probably run a 5K in 15-18 minutes.

There's no such thing as "too slow". We all run at our own paces. I'm 5'8" and weigh 179, and I run 6:40. But 9 is a solid pace as well.

no it is not good, but if u can run 3.1 miles than you are pretty good with endurance. Usually when you are 17 anything under 21 minute is good.but for your weight that is pretty good.
