First off I don't believe the local lumber yards carry a 2x4x6 board. You can get a 2x4x8 abd cut down but you are wasting 2' from every board. I would suggest buying 2x4x12 boards and cutting them down, a lot less waste involved.

in my area a 2x4x8 is 1.99, while a 2x4x12 is 3.39
you would be saving .20 per board with no waste

For under 2 bucks you can pick out a nice one. 8 footer will run close to 3 bucks right now

i see 2x4x8 green douglas fir, Std and better for $1.99 right now. this is in california. lumber and osb prices have been coming way down
