I am in the US and I was wondering if it is true that Canadians have health insurance and if so - what does it cost? if anything to you? And what does it help you get? Hospital Stay? Teeth? Eyes? - I don't have health insurance and can't afford doctor visits here in America.

I have no intention of faking Canadian citizenship for medical care! I was just curious because I was in Toronto for the weekend and it is VERY Populated - seemed odd to think ALL those people have some kind of health care.

I'm coming to you from Ontario, Canada and yes, we do get health insurance :) Here in Ontario it's called "OHIP" (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). We (well, I'm a minor, but my parents) pay taxes which go towards our health insurance. We get hospital stays, any operations we need, eyes, ER visits, etc.

Our dental care isn't covered unless it's medically relevant, but most work plans here cover dental in an insurance plan.

Edit: And to the person who says you the U.S. has the best health care system in the world, you're wrong. Europe has the best health care system(s) in the world. The U.S. just has the best EMERGENCY health care system in the world.

And the only reason Canadians come to the U.S. to get surgery is because the Canadian government limits the amount of days a surgeon can be in the O.R. because we have a shortage and so you don't want for months for a checkup appointment after a surgery.

Yes, but only if your a registered Canadian citizen, and can prove it
Anyone with a health card in Canada has a lot of other documentation back it up. Birth certificate, number one.

It does cover Hospitalization, and only under extreme economical and social condition eyes and teeth.

Don't look to come here with any fraudulent I.D. as the Canadian government got real tired of being ripped off by Americans doing this a long long time ago. They will prosecute.

No...not everyone has health insurance. Usually we do get health insurance if we have a full-time job (health benefits). We have something called OHIP that we need to get all that medical goodness. Not everything is covered though. Like the really expensive drugs. It also depends on your insurance. We can buy medical insurance (if you don't have health benefits) and I think that's about $200-$300 a month.

Can you afford cable television? Internet service? Cell phone?

Most of the people who "can't afford health insurance" actually just have other priorities?

I'm not canadian but I know people have come here to get surgeries because they had to wait forever over in canada. They have no incentive to hurry care and no they don't pay for everything and you have to wait for all testing. We have the best healthcare in the world.Even with the problems, it's still the best.
