I became an EMT - Fire fighter 8 years ago. The best thing I have ever done for myself. I got my start with the local volunteer fire department. They will pay for all of your training, right up to a paramedic, as long as you go on a small percentage of their calls. Once you get certified, you can then become a paid emt, and still keep volunteer status if you choose. It is a great way to give back to your community. It required alot of studying on my part, as I had been out of school for 25 years, but worth every minute. Good luck!!!

Also, check out the local community colleges or technical schools. Many of them offer the course work that you will need to be an EMT.

Good luck.

Call your local rescue squad. Alot of them offer classes, or at least can tell you who to call.
