Assuming which you mean an popular uncomplicated helium crammed occasion balloon, it could basically pass as severe because of fact the close to sky, if it have been fortunate to no longer get tangled in a tree after launch. environment is in simple terms too skinny above close to sky, so it could burst because it expanded.

balloons cant go that high. childrens helium filled balloons go a few thousand feet high, are carried by the wind and return back to the ground anywhere from a few miles to a hundred miles. maybe more than a hundred in severe weather conditions. they usually land in the woods, or in farm fields.

bigger, research balloons can go higher and farther, but they do not leave the earths atmosphere. they might could go as high as 50,000 feet.

to get into orbit is about 200 miles high, i think.

They will continue to rise until they are no longer less dense than the air around them. As the air pressure around them falls the ballon will expand and probably burst. But it won't leave the atmosphere.

As they rise up, the surrounding air pressure becomes lower, thus they expand. The continue to expand until they pop. Then the rubber will fall back to the ground as trash.
