My motto is EVERYTHING GOES ON CLEARANCE !! Why the hell pay full price ? I wait until things are marked down the minumun before I buy . I get new jeans and tees for $2 and 10 pairs of new socks $1. The best things in life are getting the best bargains !!! My bathroom is floor to ceiling new decor $300 value and I got it brand spanking new for $16 !!

you're making the assumption that expensive things are bought only with money.
--some expensive things don't cost money
they're paid for with time
you can spend a lot of money
buying time.
...time used to be with family/friends/self.
that time cannot be "replaced"--even though it cost a lot of money.
you've spent a lot of money to buy something that can't be replaced, for example, time with your mother.
the intangible things you value most
are not "free"
they ARE the most expensive things in your life,
even if you haven't spent actual cash/money on them.
they are not free.
those intangible things cost you the most.
they "take" the most from you.
you "spend" the most on them.
for example,
if you value the hours you spend talking with your parent,
it APPEARS as if no costs are involved--no money. no cash.
yet,
you've lost income from not being at work,
or,
you've "spent" your life hours on your mother
and now don't have them to "spend" with your child,
or on yourself improving your situtation in a way that, down-the-road, would help your mother even more
(for example, you don't go to class and further your education for a better job, because you spend time with your mother)
so, your most wonderful, valued "things",
are not really "free".
everything costs.
and the currency comes in two forms:
"cash or kind"
neither more valuable than the other.
in addition....
"expensive things" bought with money,
could BE the most valuable items in your life.
if that expensive tv, puts a smile on your sick mother's face,
it has value that can't be measured by a bank withdrawal statement.
things that cost money may be the most valuable items in your life...if they put a smile on the face of someone you love.
intangible things may appear to be free,
but many times they are the most expensive, in terms of time spent/traded, emotional cost, spiritual expense, etc..

Good category for this I think. The Beatles said "All you need is Love" and Love is free.
