Not as much as the acceptance of it as "business as usual".

I think that there are less human rights violations today than at any point in history. Our definition of what is acceptable treatment of other human beings has changed dramatically in the last few hundred years, and we as humans have more rights than ever. Remember, we used to burn women at the stake right here in America just because the women were "strange".

Human rights violations have always been there. Increased awareness of the human rights has resulted in comparative awareness of the violations also. However, like always, these trends need to be fought against.

theres a bill right now which will nullify the constitution and the geneva convention if passed. our government will have the right to torture pow's and our own citizens if deemed necessary. our leaders are slowly but surely turning the us into the reason it was formed in the first place. we are living in a police state right now. in some states you can be put in jail for not having a picture id. a lot of good people died in foriegn wars just to keep this country from becoming what it is today. its like spitting on their graves. someday this will all come back on the people in washington and their children. it will come back on us too.

We've just really began trying to fight human rights abuse in the last 100 years. unfortunently the rest of the world isn't on par with acceptable standards of human living conditions.

it's disgustingly terrible how torture is happening!
in our federal prisons, people are bieng beat to death, and sometimes even raped. and the commanders do nothing about it but sit back with a drink an enjoy.
and in saudi arabia and such, gays are killed.. simply for being gay! it's ridiculous!!
the UN needs to step up and take action for human rights, and so do other big nations like America, Brazil, India, and so forth.

Only because we are more aware of it today. Wholesale slaughter of human beings and violation of human rights has always been with us.
