Not a lot...no. However, if your Ipod video does freeze up or get to where it won't play videos. Just hold the center button and the menu button (at the top of the scroll wheel) at the same time and hold both for about 4-5 seconds until the apple icon appears. This does a soft reset of your ipod and will fix any playability issues you are having 95% of the time. Remember you are using a small hard drive and sometimes it just needs to reboot. Note: This soft reset will NOT erase or otherwise cause a problem with any of your songs/videos. The few times my video ipod froze up, I did this and it worked just fine thereafter.

No. They are not supposed to, anyway. If you do everything right, they wont.
My sister has an iPod Video 30gb. Its a great device but there is one thing I think Apple shouldn't have changed. When holding down the menu button, instead of backlight, it just goes to the first menu. Its kinda annoying sometimes, but it can be used to.

If you are making your own videos that could be a problem. There is a lot of technique to learn to compress the files properly for iPOD.
Reading up on how tools like FFMPEG work and tutorials for them might be a start...but would take time to learn. I'm not sure how serious the problem is for you to resolve.

my ipod has frozen only once and that was when i plugged it into my computer before i had the software. otherwise it is a great purchase. the only other annoying thing is how fast the battery dissapears especially when you're watching videos. get a wall charger!

They're not suppose to, but if it is, just check out the apple.com website and they'll have solutions to fix it and whatnot.
