No. C. Daae's father died. The Phantom is (and I say either because it depends on the version) a violinist who worked in the orchestra and gave singing lessons before becomming deformed by having acid spill on his face, or he was deformed from birth and was in a circus freak show before escaping to the paris opera house.

he was a great composer and was left for the wants of poverty,he had fronted his works to be given any money from it,only to find that his music has been sold had he is getting nothing for his works, goes back and destroy the opera house and nearly himself in it(wrong). it was said that he perished in the flames(wrong), later years the years the opera house is rebuilt and he lives with his first love the music of opera by climbing into the chambered ceiling and passage way of the superstructure to be near his music, he is terrible scared from the blaze of the first opera house and i can't remember if he was beaten and left by the stealer of his music to be burned alive so no one know that it was his music, good story?, any way the phantom is the father of the leading lady of the the solo singer on the new opera house and she thinks her father is dead but , the movie plays out and all is reveal ed the father is not the villain but the great composer and the curtain falls on the daughter finding her father was Innocent of setting the fire and is the composer of the music she sings

In the book, he was disfigured in birth. He was a murderer in Persia and escaped to France. But because of his face, he was doomed under the bowels of the opera. He promised Christine's father that he would care for Christine when he died. But chaos started when he fell in love with her.
In the musical, he was rescued by Madame Giry from abuse in a fair. And he watched Christine as she grew up and guided her to music, and eventually fell in love with her.
In an unpopular tv movie version, he was a married musician. His wife, a singer, under somewhat depression, killed herself. Forever in despair, he bathed himself in acid and lived in seclusion haunting the Paris Opera. He went on living like this until he saw that one singer, Christine Daae, looked and sounded just like his wife. Thinking it was his wife coming back to life, he would stop at nothing until Christine would agree to be his.

The Phantom was Christine's mentor, and he also was secretly in love with her. This caused a lover's triangle situation to arise between Christine and Raoul who were in love, and the Phantom whose love for Christine was unrequited.
