If I start hearing them on the radio up here in vermont, then by that time they will have been mainstream and dead for ten years. So, I'll let you know in a decade or so.

How could they be too mainstream? Social Distortion were too mainstream 15 years ago when they had a commercial hit with "Ring of Fire". Now they are just obscure

Too mainstream for what? Are you one of those people that only likes a band until x number of people like them, then it's not cool anymore? If they make good music, they make good music. Don't let the number of people that like them sway your judgement of their music.
