I was enjoying some of the popcap games in Pogo, but a tech was scanning and cleaning my pc he said they bring in adware. Is it really dangerous?

I cannot guarantee what other game distributors (like Gamehouse & Pogo) may include with their games, but I know that PopCap Games themselves ( at http://www.popcap.com ) DOES NOT INCLUDE SPYWARE.

However, I am aware that some of PopCap's games (mostly the older games) will have an ad pop-up promoting some of their other games. THIS IS NOT ADWARE! The ad pop-ups come from the game itself upon quiting it... or more specifically, "shameless self-promotion".

The ads are normally located at C:\Program Files\PopCap Games\\win32ads & are completely self-contained... meaning that what you see in that folder are the only ads you'll even see when the game brings up the pop-up ad. The game will not download any new ads to bug you with.

While PopCap games can be a little sensitive when it comes to data integrity. You could delete this folder or the contents of it (leaving only an empty folder), but I don't suggest it as it could cause the game to stop working until your reinstall it.

All you can do is live with the pretty minimal ads.

Not really dangerous, as opposed to spyware. Just bring in a lot of "commercials."

adware

- 1) Generically, adware (spelled all lower case) is any software application in which advertising banners are displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen. The justification for adware is that it helps recover programming development cost and helps to hold down the cost for the user.
Adware has been criticized because it usually includes code that tracks a user's personal information and passes it on to third parties, without the user's authorization or knowledge. This practice has been dubbed spyware and has prompted an outcry from computer security and privacy advocates, including the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

adware need not be necessarily dangerous. Install mcafee siteadvisor plugin from the link below. It will warn you if you are about to visit a potentially harmful site.

If you do not have an antispy program. Download from the link below.

most likely. even if it doesn't you should have at least one anti-spyware. more is better, and unlike anti-virus and your firewall you can have more than one. I run ad-adware, spybot search and distroy. windows defender. and go on like to ewido from time to time and do an online scan there. you can get all of those programs for free. just go to the links below.
