does it get results ( and that's what you want ) no....
does it get attention ( though depending on the cause and therelated free publicity )yes..
do poeple remember you doing it, no you a 2 sec sound bite..

now if you somehow managed to strapa 20 kt atomic backpack and threatened to deonate...
is it ethically wrong.. yes
does it get results.. yes ( usally in the form ofa FBI / SWAT / NSA / CIA team killing you )
does it get attention.. yes ( CNN will carry the feed live to the world baby ! )
do people remember you, YES ( you will be a definate footnote in history )

so it all goes to show you that protest is rarely effective at amending the desired change to what ever policy you do not care about if you do it by yourself, but it does get more attentin to some degree depending on what level of commitment you are willing to commit to to prove your point.
