Hope you'll like it. Universidad de San José is actually located in downtown San José, in front of the National Museum. There's a flee market half block down and a restaurant a block away where they serve the best gallo pinto con natilla in town :-) . BUT downtown might not be the safest or the cleanest area, you'll have to be careful with pickpockets, so, I wouldn't recommend that you carry any expensive jewerly while walking around. If you like clubbing or nightlife activities, downtown isn't the best area either, you might want to check out Escazú, San Pedro, Heredia (beautiful city), and other areas...but DEFINETELY AVOID DOWNTOWN!! There's a lot of cool things to see: volcanoes, hot springs, rain forests, beaches, art galleries, funny animals, etc, etc...People are extremely friendly, even those pickpockets :-P (I'm serious). Oh! if you aren't good with directions, try not to drive, because the streets are all messed up, there's no street names or numbers, and the roads are full of potholes
Anyways, just go and enjoy your stay. It's a beautiful country!!
This is one of the coolest places down there: http://www.tabacon.com/
