this is an old computer someone had but they had it on dial up ,i have cable through my tv..i hit the run program then did wp what evr thing. tried to adjust the ip 's.. its like an old compac presario.windows 98,, my other computers work fine online..has the ethernet connection

how about calling your Internet provider. they are supposed to be available to help you connect free with paying for their services. it could be a problem on their end. either way, they will help walk you through the process. just beware, often these people are outsourced and you are talking to someone in India, for example. that can make it much more difficult to understand them & for them to understand you. (nothing against them, just the U.S. companies & American jobs).

make sure the nic(network interface card) is enabled. set the pc to obtain the ip and dns automaticaly. use windows network setup wizzard to setup your entir network, even if your wireless.i recommend upgrading to wondows 2000(not xp). xp and old school compaqs dont go together. then again nothing really works well with an old school compaq. make sure you have the latest drivers for your nic. POST MORE INFO FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE (error meassages, list of nic's(disable dialup), if you are connecting pc to pc i recommend enabling incoming connections on the computer connected to the modem

Start --> Run --> Winipcfg
