Why would you get a pet you know nothing about. That's why most peoples reptiles die. People don't know how to properly care for them. http://www.austinsturtlepage.com Go there and look up some care info please before you kill the damn thing.

RESes do shed, all the time. I have two of them and they shed so much skin it starts floating around the tank if it doesn't get sucked up by the filter. If your tank water is dirty, they may shed even more, so you should always keep the water clean (but if you completely change it TOO often, the turtles will get stressed out, and beneficial bacteria won't be able to grow). Shedding is completely normal. You might even see your turtle rubbing itself to get rid of some itchy excess skin. If your turtle is shedding WAY too much, however, it may have a fungal infection, which you'll have to get checked by a doctor.

You'll need to provide a basking area, a place where your turtle can completely leave the water and soak up some heat and UVA and UVB rays (you'll need to buy lamps for it).

If you have any other questions, you can e-mail me at nakedzombieforce @ yahoo dot com, and I'll do my best to answer them. I think it's so unproductive of people to tell you that you need to learn how to take care of your pet instead of helping you, so I hope you'll do your best. Turtles can be hard to take care of at first but once you get the basics down, they'll be happy on their own.

Turtles/Tortoises do shed, but it's only very slight.

Their old scales and worn away shell pieces will just flake off, but it's nothing in comparison to an iguana or a snake.

They shed skin like we do when we peel after a sunburn- odd patches and thin layers. They shed their shell plates (scutes) sometimes in what look like very thin sheets of a fingernail-like material.
