McDreamy already confessed to Meredith that he made the wrong choice when he had to choose between her & Addison. This means that he's handing Meredith all the cards here. He wouldn't have it in him to hurt Meredith all over again. Still, I like Finn better for Meredith coz he has plans. And his feelings for Mer seem really genuine.

He already did.....he told her he was backing out. Before he did he was talking to the Chief and asked him why he chose not to stay with Meredith mom's. The Chielf replied that he could have but he knew he could never make her happy. He'd bring too much baggage with him (ie the guilt of leaving his wife) to love her the way that she deserved to be loved. You could tell from the look on Derek's face that he understood that. Then he goes to Meredith and tells her that basically he is setting her free to pursue Finn and even thought she is still a little dopey you can see the pain in her face. Then later she dumps Finn. So now she has no man again.

To make the show have suspense and drama, McDreamy will end up breaking Meredith's heart again. But I believe that his heart will always be with Meredith. He just doesn't think that he deserves a women like her, so he will end up breaking her heart again. And to make the show more interesting at that point, she will end up finding someone else like another McVet and Derek will realize that she is the one he wants to be with because they make each other happy. Then the drama will continue once again...

The ink hasn't even hit the divorce papers. He told her to let him go, and she let Finn go. Of course he is going to hurt her. Addison hasn't left, and; Mark is in the area; that has to irritate Derek something fierce.
