Oh boy, it's been a while...

If I remember correctly, a logic probe measures voltage. If it finds a voltage of 0V to +3.2 V, the probe "thinks" it's a logical low. If it finds a voltage of +3.3 V to +5 V, the probe "thinks" it's a logical high. (I forget the actual threshold voltage that divides high from low.)
