Movie stars and t.v stars and talk show hosts are out spewing their opinions about the government . They say some of the worst things about our politicians. Do you think they should be our leaders just because they are in the public eye? Some are very good actors but, I think that some of them don't have a brain in their head, and they are telling me if I don't agree with them, I am wrong? What do you think?

A lot of great answers here. It will be hard to choose a winner. I have to disagree, just because the multi millionaires give money does not make them, better or smarter or their cause the correct one!

Heck NO.. They are idiots. They are not smart enough to get regular jobs, so they act like it. And, because they may act in a movie about politics, or some other pet cause, they feel they can spout their mind, professing knowledge and wisdom based on the writer's scripts.

And let me make a distinction here. There are those celebrities that feel they have some unique insight that regular people do not have JUST because they are stars or starred in a movie of a particular subject (ala Jessica Lange). And there are those who go out of their way to become knowledgeable about subjects, asking others more knowledgeable than they before making their suggestions. And, those that have fully entered into the political realm, have done so by leaving the acting career behind or whose acting career was long gone. Thus, they were politically astute based on their individual merits - not their acting prowess.

As far as politics go, here are some who have demonstrated their intelligence by being proactive, actually taking on issues, learning about the specific subjects they supported (or ridiculed) - rather than use their fame to belittle a sitting politician or attack an issue of which they only know about because of a film role!

Ronald Reagan
Clint Eastwood
Sonny Bono
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Denzel Washington
Charlton Heston
Larry The Cableguy - used to have some terrific political
commentary written in his unique style!
Bill Engvall - great Here's Your Sign song on his last CD!
Jesse The Body Ventura
Phil Collins - has done a great deal of charity work for the worlds
poor
Micheal Jackson - OK has a bad rep with children, but remember
We Are The World?
Jerry Lewis
Tom Hanks
Bonno
Steven Spielberg - The living witness program to videotape
Holocaust survivors
Eric Clapton - Personally supports a drug treatment clinic on the
island of Montserrat
Sigourney Weaver - After starring in Gorillas in the Mist, she
recently made a trip back to Africa to visit
with her co-stars - was documented by
Animal Planet.

A lot of celebrities do shoot their mouths off because they have strong feelings concerning a specific issue, but actual support, dedication, or time spent working on their cause is lacking! Each of those I have listed above, and many more are willing to put their money AND themselves where their mouths are, and have done much to bring light to their specific causes.

Celebrities always get asked questions about current events, but they usually don't give answers any more intelligent than the ones people like you and I could give. Unfortunately, most people consider celebrities to be more than human, so when they give those answers, people are instantly convinced that they know what they're talking about. I take everything celebrities say with a grain of salt, just like anything anyone else says, and I actually listen to the answer. If it's "Um, well, you know, North Korea has done some really bad things, soooo I don't know...", then it's official, that particular celebrity is human, just like the rest of us.

Maybe those who actually have earned a degree in something from any college or university.

But no, they are not smarter than me, they just have 'their people' writing what they should say to our government leaders. Thinking what they say will actually have an impact on our way of life.

It seems that having a celebrity status gives one the right to stand on their soapbox and mouthoff about anything and everything under the sun.

They think they are smarter than the average person. Most do not have a brain in their head. This is typical of an attitude of a far left liberal. They think their views and opinions are the only legitimate ones. Look at the conservative speakers on college campuses. They are screamed at, have stuff thrown at them, and shouted down. Whatever happened to the First Amendment?

I don't think anyone who makes their living pretending should be spouting off politcal beliefs as part of a plan to get people on the bandwagon. Celebrities have every right to an opinion or to donate to political causes, but they are no more informed than anyone else. In fact, I think they are more likely to choose their beliefs based upon whatever Hollywood is supporting at the time.

The difference between celebrities and just regular folks, is that the media keeps asking them questions.

When is the last time some reporter stuck a microphone in your face to ask your opinion about anything?

The actor is just like you and me except he can act in front of a camera or on the stage. Otherwise, he's just another person giving his opinion. It doesn't make him a leader.

The important thing to remember about celebrities is that they are still ordinary people like you and me. They have a lot more money and more people know who they are, but those things don't make them smarter.

Although, some are well educated and some of them make valid points about certain issues; just like with people that aren't famous. Just know that their opinions are just that: opinions.

Being well known doesn't make you any smarter than anybody else.

well in the world of creativity, which actors belong to, ideas are exchanged and discussed at parties, movie premieres, etc. they have more options than the normal American, in many cases they are not smarter but more creative and people like the Jolie-Pitts, Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin, George Clooney, Oprah all seem to want to make the world a better place, so when one puts their money where their mouths are, it stands to reason that they will look into how charities operate. You aren't obligated to agree with them, just be fair in your assessment
