A lot depends where you are in regard to altitude, and how well your ignition timing is adjusted.. regular should do just fine, unless you have a high compression engine (above 10 to 1) or in plain English 140lbs per square inch, then a premium
octane fuel might be the answer.first try octane boosters,then check your ignition timing(6degrees to 8 degrees advanced timing )
don't forget to check the plugs coloring , too dark means too rich, too light gray means to lean, and somewhere in between is good! I have noticed good quality gasoline can make a difference, and if you can not afford that type of gas try additives (octane oriented).

i own a repair shop,and it was designed to run on 87 octane and it should do pretty good on it,you can use a higher octane in it,but it may not help it none at all on mileage and i have sen a lot of them try it, id try different grades and see if it made any difference but i don't think it will,good luck i hope this help,s

my 98 with a 5.9L recommends premium gas only but depending on your engine you should be able to run regular
