Too, too reductionist.

The definition of "culture" means different things to different people. For example, the answerer above me thinks there are "two mainstream Americas" based on political ideology or party affiliation. Is an urban neighborhood "mainstream America"? What about a suburb, or a small town, or regional differences in culture. We even talk different than some Americans 1000 miles away, heck, we might not even be able to understand the others dialect!

Perhaps if you defined the characteristics of mainstream America, we could more easily answer. Or not - because we might then argue over the definition of mainstream America, its mores and values, and other aspects of your definition.

I don't think so, but what anymore is mainstream in America? Not even baseball is mainstream as far as I can tell.

In my community, there is about 100,000 people, mostly caucasian, with many new immigrants from the Balkan region. All of our cops are white, except one guy, who just so happens to be the Chief of Police.

Alas, yes. However, America's culture is becoming much more diverse, and so is this area. Along with all the white American good old boys, we are seeing an influx of Hispanics, Russians, East Indians, etc. Along wih numerous Christian churches we have a Jewish temple and a Muslim mosque. The mainstream is much wider these days, and that's fine with me.
