No, you can put your songs from cd's onto your ipod. Many of my songs are from my cd's. Usually when you put the cd into your computer a small window will pop up asking you what you want to do with the cd. Just click the "play in iTunes" button. If this doesn't pop up then just open iTunes and put the cd in. It will show up right where your ipod normally would and it will list the songs. Then in the right hand corner click the import cd buttong after selecting what songs you want in iTunes. Then just drag to iPod and ENJOY!
If your songs are already on your hard drive, just drag them into iTunes or play them in iTunes and they will be in your library.

You can put lots of different songs on your iPod. It is not required that you buy them from iTunes.

You do have to use the iTunes program to load the songs onto your iPod, but the program is free, easy to use, and available for both Mac and PC.

You can put MP3 files, or unprotected AAC files on your iPod using iTunes.

iTunes can also take songs directly off of CD's you already have, convert them to MP3 files, and transfer them to your iPod.

The iPod's and iTunes are very easy to use, and will work with most all of your existing music! The only major file type iTunes will not recognize is the .WMA files that are proprietary to Windows Media Player.

Hope this helps!!

you can put songs from your hard drive to ipod by using itunes.
you need to find what folder in your hard drive did you keep the mp3 songs.
here's how:
open your itune program.
click FILE tab, and select ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY
click ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY(new window will open)
click the folder where you are keeping your mp3 songs
