No wonder why we still have racism in the U.S. I thought we where all just Americans. Should we stop the ethnic titles?

Its utterly ridiculous that they insist on being called African-Americans or Asian Americans or whatnot. No one calls me a European American, and they shouldn't, I've never been there. And then get this. I've heard people so utterly stupid they've called people that live in Africa African-Americans, just to not sound like a bigot or whatever. Well I hate to tell em, but they aren't freakin Americans! I refuse to call blacks African-Americans because they are not from freakin Africa. Their ancestors yes, but not them. They're simply americans to me. Black people who are Americans. Just like I'm a white person thats an American. There is no country on the planet called African America, so no one can be from there, therefore no one can posses this title. Thank you for pointing this out to all the idiots out there

We wouldn't need titles if people would stop asking us: "What are you?" and "What nationality are you?"
And then, when we answer: "American," they say, "but you're not white," and they stutter and try to figure out how to ask about our ethnicity, but don't know any words that long.
Then they say, "Where are your parents from?" because, apparently, the name Mendoza isn't an American name so they don't understand how I got here.

African-American is the only official "ethnic" title. It exists because Black is considered derogatory.
The rest are just made up, as needed.

Good point. My husband is British and always sniggers under his breath when he hears an American say something like "I'm Irish" (or whatever).

If you were born here, you're American, regardless of what your "ancestry" might be. That simple.
