PPL = people. Not plp.
People dislike the police for one of two reasons. They either have been done an injustice by the police, or they are the people that the police are after.
Personally, I'm not fond of them. I get pulled over regularly because around where I live, my age, race, gender, and economic class equal the largest profile of criminals around here. An example:
I was once pulled over whilst taking my friend out for my birthday. He had just turned 20, and I was only 9 days away from my 19th birthday. Neither of us are big party-people, we just wanted to go for a late night drive to get something to eat and check out some stuff at Wal-Mart. On the way to get something to eat, we saw several police dodging around where we were driving to. There were no other cars on the road, it was about 1:30 am. Finally one pulls out behind me, so I just ignored him. I was going the speed limit, both of our seatbelts were buckled (a rule in my car), etc. However, as soon as I pulled into the restaurant, he flashed his lights. Two 20 year old guys driving around this late must be causing trouble, right? They tore apart my car to search it, searched both of us, made us take a field sobriety test, and found interrogated us for nearly 20 minutes. Next thing I know, I'm being slapped in handcuffs and taken to jail. Why? My license mysteriously came up suspended. They let my friend go so he could drive my car back home, but I rode to jail in a police car and spent the night in jail. The next day, I contacted the DMV, the states attorney's office, and everyone else I could think of to help me figure out what was going on. The verdict? My license was never suspended. I ended up having to go to court fighting this wrongful arrest for nearly 3 months and was afraid to drive for quite awhile after this.
I will own up to the fact that I have had my share of traffic tickets, and I deserved a couple, but I have also gotten ridiculous tickets that I had to pay because it was the word of a 20-year-old college kid against the word of the officer(s) that pulled me over.
Don't get me wrong, I also understand that police are necessary. But when the police department only works against you, it's easy to dislike them. I once called in to report a meth lab in my hometown, and another time to report a man walking downtown with a gun, and the police did nothing about either one.
I don't think anyone but true criminals and idiots truly dislike the police.. they're just sick of being wrongdone.

Because so many people get high and are justifiably paranoid of the Authority that the police represent. I don't get it either. I have a friend who hates the police even though he's never had anything done to him by the police so bad as to deserve his level of hate. I tell him, 'they keep people worse than us locked away', and that the police is your friend unless he's busting you or pulling your car over.

There has been police beatings back then where there was still racism around. Police beating African Americans. Police still have that stereotype. How all white police officers arrest African Americans for little reasons.

On average, the police are good people, doing their job well and improving society. But quite a few are power-tripping *******. These are the cops I don't like. They are a minority, but not rare by any means.

It's hard to like the police when you live in a police state.

Police authority is like fire: you can use it beneficially, or it can burn you to death. The other edge is that of abuse of that authority. Too many times have we seen police officers "hide" behind that badge and become thugs themselves.
They're excuse of "I feared for my life" can get them off almost any thuggery they perpetuate. Sad.
