Hard. But I bought my dad a soft toilet seat as a stupid gift one year. It was funny because after a few months, the soft seat would fill with air....when you would sit down, the air would escape......It made a hilarious sound.

definitely hard. Soft seats tend to get disgusting after awhile, no matter what.

It is hard, I used to have a soft cushioned one but the vynal covering starteing cracking and tearing.

I've had both. Currently it is hard, but I don't sit on it long enough to matter.
