The American people are failing to recognize two vitally important issues: Saddam Hussein IS a Terrorist & the Iraq war was an extension of the first Gulf War.

After 9/11 President Bush said: If you harbor a terrorist or sponsor a terrorist, you are a terrorist! The American people applauded that concept. Saddam paid Palistinians to go bomb Israel

The liberals have gotten away with conveying that President Bush went to war in Iraq under false pretences: that Saddam had WMD's. Ignoring the fact that the world intelligence and leaders all agreed Saddam had them. The fact is, this was an extension of the first Gulf war because Saddam Hussein refused to comply to 15 U.N. resolutions pertaining to the first Gulf War.

It seems to me these two perceptions influence a lot of people's opinions of the war. This along with the realization that Iran is perpetuating the violence in Iraq and wants the destruction of Israel would make people know why Iraq is a stategic spot in the war.

Don,

In response to your answer about Saddam let me provide you with some background. I was a Marine called up for Desert Storm. So, I have a perspective about the man that I will fill you in on. First, he admired Hitler and had similar ambitions.

Second, it is a historical fact he had wmd's because he gassed the kurds and used them in the war against Iran when he was our ally at the time. Also, wmd's have been found. The Dems reject or belittle this fact for their political agenda. The fact is he had them and we found some of them. The others were shipped to Syria.

Third, it is also a historical fact that Saddam was warned by the U.N. that if he did not comply with the resolutions he may be attacked. This is why there were sanctions against Iraq except for humanitarian aid by the U.N. because Saddam fired on our planes, tossed out U.N. inspectors, & other violations. France, Russia, Germany, China, and certain members of the U.N. were being bribed in the Oil for Food

scandal in which Saddam was getting weapons from France and these members were refusing to go to war because of the money Saddam was paying them. The democrats say he was contained but history proves this is false.

Forth, Saddam was supporting terrorist activity.

Fifth, NK has nukes thanks to Clinton. We have not attacked them because they have never used wmd's on anyone like Saddam has.

Finally, listening to CNN is why you are ill informed. They've lost credibility & viewers.

Oh Boy, this ought to bring a LOT of heated response!!!

My view on "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is as follows.....

The first Gulf war, "Desert Storm" was and always will be a just war. In today's world, there isn't room for one nation to try to annex another via military force. I know already some of you are rolling your eyes... Let me finish.....

Saddam Hussein IS a horrible and cruel human being, anyone who attempts genocide should not be in power. I think that the US was wrong to not finish the job the first time. Anytime our military needs to be deployed is a tragedy. Did Saddam have WMD'S? Hard evidence says no at this point. Should the US have removed him from power? YES!!

Did we go to war for oil? Will you people grow up already with the oil!!!

Is Iraq a potential key point to take Israel from Israelis and create a Palistinian nation? Most likely yes, but that should not be the reason we are there. The amount of insurgence and general civil unrest in the Middle East is simply INCOMPREHENSIBLE to 95% of Americans, we just don't see it here. Can the idea of freedom and democracy work there? Time will tell on that issue, it seems that everyone is very power hungry and willing to eliminate whomever stands in their way the opposition does not agree. I find it interesting that Iran and Iraq are closer to being allies than ever before, anyone else remember the 1980's?

I think that in light of everything that Saddam had done after "Operation Desert Storm" he was given ample time and due process to comply with the UN Resolutions. If you can't agree to humane living conditions, not killing people who disagree with you, and other clandestine handling of policy, then he got what he deserved, maybe about 7 years too late though.

That's my opinion and feel free to agree or disagree, that's why I LOVE being an AMERICAN!!!!

Hussein is nothing but an old man in a prison right now. Top intelligence agencies from around the world have NEVER agreed that there were every WMD there. The first gulf-war wasn't justified either, so to justify this one by suggesting it is a mere extension based on some resolutions that are 15 or more years old is just nonsense.

The MAIN perception that influences my opinion(s) of the war is the fact that 1000s of people are dying--not just soldiers, but civilians, too.

Who cares about "strategic spot" when people are dying all the time?

The only only one that ever said Sadam was a terrorist was Bush. Why would you believe anything that guy says? Bush is pretty much a terrorist in most of the worlds eyes

What makes you think the first gulf war is related to the United States attack on Iraq?

I have yet to see any proof or even a statment on CNN or anywhere else that Sadam did anything more then attack Quwit and pick fights with Iraq maybe lobed a missle in to Israel once but Israel can take care of it's self and has prove that many times.

Can you show proof that WMDs have been found in Iraq? I have seen on the news many times that nothing was found but plans. Iran has the nuke plants running and no attack on them.. NK has blowen one up and we have not attacked them. The UN was trying to stop BUSH from attacking Iraq. So Bush had no right to attack them under resolution 15. When the UN wants something done they ask countries to join. But bully Bush attacked anyway because he knew no one could do anything about it. Cowboy redneck from hell.

And again as far as someone wanting the destruction of Israel they can defend them selfs.

Saddam was an insane thug, but he wasn't a terrorist to the americans.

There were no wmd's, and the war was fought based on a lie.

The USA can't win the peace in Iraq, and 2800 brave Americans have died. It's time to let the Irqis run their own nation, and bring our boys home.

Do you realize that Saddam was the only liberal and secular ruler in the entire 22 Arab countries who educated all the Kids and gave Equal rights to the Women.Women are not even allowed to drive in other Arab countries.OIL Was HIS DOOM.He nationalized all the oil companies and became the enemy of the west.If the Amercans want to win then they should make some deal with him and bring him back to power, only he knows how to control Iraq.

I have an objective view of this issue and would like to rotate the table just to give you another perspective:
First, suppose that Iraq was never invaded and Saddam was still in power. He was at odds with Al Qaida and would be extremely unlikely to supply them with WMD's. Iraq would still be living under his regime and would not have had 650 000 dead civilians in three years. It is estimated that he killed 300 000 in over 20 years. I can't justify this but in view of the current sunni-shiite mutual slaughtering, I can at least see how this animal behavior created an animal dictator.
As far as supporting the killing of Israelis , the US supported the killings of Palestinians, with massive supply of military weapons and cash. The number of Palestinians killed is vastly superior to the number of Israelis killed.
We are dealing with deranged philosophies on both sides. On one side, muslims want to destroy the "Zionists" for religious reasons and the Jews want to take the land given to them by God. No room for negotiation. They seem to deserve each other in this land of delusion and deception.
P.S. No such thing in American press as Israeli atrocities. It is banned. Try the foreign press.
I think Israel has the brain power advantage over the muslims, who insist on living in the 7th century, and, certainly before the Renaissance. Their only power is their complete lack of reason, logic,or civilized thought, enabling them to use the only weapon they can create: suicide bombing.
