We have a gas furnace and a wood air tight. The airtight heats the main floor so HOT that the furnace never comes on which leaves the bedrooms and basement freezing. Can I buy a thermostat that will measure two areas and take an average ? Any other suggestions ?

Wire a thermostat in the basement or bedroom directly to the furnace bypassing the wood stove entirely and make sure to disconnect it from the original t-stat. This will provide two separate zones which can be controlled independently from one another thus providing comfort throughout the cabin.

when you're burning wood, just run the furnace fan... ,move & filter the air, no more cost than a good free standing fan!!!
