Dodge man is correct with the fuel sending unit suggestion but also you may want to investigate the fuel filter and/ or fuel pump. Try pouring some gas into the carb and see if it will start or run. If so replace the fuel filter first, it is the much cheaper of the two. If that does not work try the fuel pump...

Look in the fuse box for a blown ignition fuse or a failed fuel pump relay. If you can't find a blown fuse, a fusible link may have blown, and some one who knows our vehicle can tell you where it is found. A fuel pump failure would cause that also.
If it is not reading the fuel level correctly, have you considered it may be out of fuel?

My son's Suburban did that a couple of times. I think his was the fuel pump. Could be the sending unit too.

you checked fuel. did you check for spark?
what is the code #?
as long as you have adequate fuel pressure at the rail, a bad fuel level reading isn't a problem.
check that you have spark to ignite the fuel.

i own one of these truck, maybe i can help, the computer, controls the spark timing,on that model,if the computer looses voltage, then there is no reference signal sent to the module,so it cant fire, now if you,ll check your fuse box you,ll see a fuse marked crank,it is responsible for the crank signal,if it blows the vehicle will try and start, but will not run, what it is doing is getting partial fire, only to half the cylinders, and it wont get this fire all the time,,only intermittent, the control module on this one should be bolted to the firewall, above the engine, you can take this off and take it to advance auto parts, and they can check it for you,,chances are it went dead,,,basically there isn't much to that ignition system,so it wont be that hard to diagnose,i hope you get it going.
