nothing wrong with that

... Nothing? It's just that some fans like the band enough to be happy for their success, but some other fans are a bit more skeptic and think that the band is selling out... Sometimes, the band also develops a totally different sound just to make it mainstream, which doesn't settle well with the underground.

People like to feel that a band is their own. Like they're their own little secret. When they go mainstream its seen as selling out. Indeed most bands do compromise their natural sound to be more widely accepted. As soon as a producer or some dude in a suit steps in and tinkers with the music, the band has created a deadly sin that will not be forgiven by their original fans.

Because then the band loses what they really are. Motley Crue was the best until they went mainstream into the pop rock crap. Then they sucked. Bands sound worse when they change to mainstream music and they become wannabes or false artists.

The only people that have a problem with that are the band's original fans. Some people only like bands when they know that other people don't know about them.

It's like the person with the answer above this. They are clearly a self-important jerk that thinks things are only good when not many people like it. He/she thinks they're better than everyone else, so if everyone else likes a band, it must be crap.

I don't think anything is wrong with it. like if anything at all i think it is good cuz then that kinda means the band is getting everything like all the credit they have been working for for all the years they have been a band. See alot of people i know think its bad if a band goes mainstream cuz then that means they are like sold out or just too popular or something. its like if you're gonna stop being a fan of a band just cuz they get more popular then obviously you weren't ever a fan of theirs to start with. just cuz a band gets known by alot of people doesn't mean they are like sell outs or anything. i hate when people say that. i mean if you luv the band then support them no matter what you know? i think its kinda good sometimes for a band to go "mainstream" they are just building their fan base lol. like right now alot of people are starting to like The All-American Rejects cuz "Dirty Little Secret" and "move along" and "it ends tonight" were released but see now alot of people are like "oh i luv aar!" cuz for alot of those people those are the only songs they ever heard from AAR but its like i have been listening to AAR for a while like doesn't anyone remember AAr's first real kinda big hit "Swing Swing" yeah i am fan of AAR and i guess right now they are kinda going mainstream... but it doesn't bother me i am happy for the band they are getting the credit for their great music they desere to get!!! i know i will always be a fan of theirs no matter what. i don't think there is anything wrong with going mainstream. and i hate when alot of people start to hate the bands they used to luv just cuz they went mainstream for a little bit....♥music♥

If it means going against their beliefs just to try to make more money then it is not such a good idea as they will lose heart and make crap music.
They should wait and eventually mainstream will catch up with them.

Everyone wants to be an individual - this ironically makes everyone want to be like everyone else. When a band goes mainstream, their fans think:
like omg, they totally sold out. tehy shouldnt b lyke evry1 else coz they suposed 2 be individual, just lyke me n evry1 else in teh world.
