Baby girls are born with millions of eggs.
When a girl reaches puberty, she becomes fertile and is ready to release those eggs to willing sperm.
Two weeks before a girl gets her period, she ovulates--meaning an egg drops from it's follicle and makes it's way to her uterus.
Her uterus, hoping to support the egg mixed with sperm (which creates a blastocyst and eventually becomes a fetus) creates a thicker lining.
When the egg isn't fertilized by a sperm, the uterus sheds the lining it created and it comes out about two weeks later (a period).
Often, a woman gets her period at the full moon (I do) or at the same time as the other women she lives with.
Hope this helps.
If you are sexually active, protect yourself with condoms and the pill.
Best of luck.
