The only way to find that out for sure is to call an inspector. If your siding is from before the 1970's there is a chance that it is asbestos containing. I wouldn't take the chance of just the "looks like" approach, that stuff could kill you.

Let me think......nnnnnnnnooooooo I wouldn't call an inspector. The second guy is correct. Billions of our tax dollars were thrown away in the 80's when these "environmental hazard" goofballs were running around the country pointing to every piece of asbestos wrapped around a pipe and screaming that the sky was falling. After a couple of years scientists proved that it wasn't hurting a thing unless you started to remove it; even then you just needed to wear a respirator and keep the stuff damp. Anyway, we always try to "borrow" matching material from an inconspicuous place and then repair the less obvious spot with something very close.

it will kill you when you grind it up & inhale the dust, after 30 years 10 of it coughing.

pull some off the back of your garage / house, & patch there with the best you can find. I would maybe pull all off across bottom or top & replace w/ 1 x 8, 1 x 12 skirt board & it will look like you wanted it that way!! don't make dust, where mask! just keep it wet while jacking with it!
