you cannot have an equation without an equal sign because the word equation imply equality therefore there must be an equal sign. however if you have a math problem that has no equal sign it is called an expression

Its still an equation as far as I know because if its solved,

2+2-6 = -2

ergo, equation, as opposed to inequality

2+2-6 > -7
